A careful look at mental health and family functioning.
Families facing a removal proceeding may need clinical documentation of emotional concerns, existing vulnerabilities, and the ways family relationships support everyday life.
What the evaluation explores
An evaluation explores the mental health and functioning of the person identified for assessment. It may consider emotional symptoms, treatment history, reliance on family support, and the possible clinical impact of changing family circumstances. The legal purpose and the person to be evaluated are clarified with counsel before the assessment begins.
- Mental health history, current symptoms, and coping resources
- Family roles, emotional support, and caregiving relationships
- Effects of current uncertainty on sleep, concentration, work, or routines
- Clinically relevant concerns about separation or relocation
Virtual evaluations in New York and New Jersey
Appointments are conducted virtually, so you can meet from a private location without traveling to an office. You must be physically in New York or New Jersey during your appointment. We confirm your location, language needs, privacy, and clinical fit before scheduling.
Preparing for your appointment
Ask your attorney to clarify the evaluation request, who needs assessment, and the filing deadline. Age, clinical needs, and the suitability of a virtual interview are reviewed before accepting the referral. We do not make legal eligibility or removal decisions.
From interview to written report
Before we begin, we review the purpose of the assessment, informed consent, confidentiality limits, and fees. The evaluation may include a clinical interview, appropriate assessment measures, and review of relevant available records. A written report presents the clinical findings and relevant limitations. Report timing is agreed upon before booking.
Is this the same as an extreme hardship waiver evaluation?
No. Different immigration matters can involve different legal questions. Your attorney identifies the relevant legal standard; we define the clinical scope for the requested assessment.
