Understanding the emotional impact of separation or relocation.
When an immigration matter involves potential separation or relocation, a mental health evaluation can explore how those possibilities relate to the person’s emotional wellbeing and daily functioning.
What the evaluation explores
Our clinical focus is the individual being evaluated: their mental health history, current symptoms, sources of support, caregiving responsibilities, and concerns about a possible change in family circumstances. The assessment describes findings supported by the interview, assessment measures, and relevant records.
- Current emotional symptoms and any history of mental health treatment
- The role of close relationships, routines, and support systems
- Caregiving demands and the impact of stress on day-to-day functioning
- Concerns about separation, relocation, or disruption of ongoing care
Virtual evaluations in New York and New Jersey
Appointments are conducted virtually, so you can meet from a private location without traveling to an office. You must be physically in New York or New Jersey during your appointment. We confirm your location, language needs, privacy, and clinical fit before scheduling.
Preparing for your appointment
Ask your attorney who should be evaluated and what questions the report should address. Bring a current medication list and relevant treatment records if available. Share any deadline before scheduling. A clinical report does not determine whether the legal standard of extreme hardship is met.
From interview to written report
Before we begin, we review the purpose of the assessment, informed consent, confidentiality limits, and fees. The evaluation may include a clinical interview, appropriate assessment measures, and review of relevant available records. A written report presents the clinical findings and relevant limitations. Report timing is agreed upon before booking.
Who should schedule the evaluation?
Your attorney should identify the person whose circumstances need to be assessed and explain the legal purpose of the evaluation. We confirm clinical fit before an appointment is scheduled.
