VAWA Mental Health Evaluations in NY & NJ

Clinical mental health evaluations with Christina Nicole Smith, LMHC, LPC. Virtual appointments in New York and New Jersey.

A respectful assessment of the impact of abuse.

Experiences of abuse can affect emotional wellbeing, confidence, relationships, and daily life. A clinical evaluation provides a place to describe relevant experiences and assess their mental health impact.

What the evaluation explores

The interview may explore patterns of fear, control, emotional harm, physical harm, or other experiences you identify as relevant. The purpose is to understand the clinical picture and document supported findings. Your attorney addresses legal eligibility and determines how the report may be used.

  • Relevant relationship history and experiences of abuse or control
  • Emotional symptoms, coping, and changes in functioning
  • Effects on sleep, work, relationships, and sense of safety
  • Previous treatment, current support, and clinical recommendations

Virtual evaluations in New York and New Jersey

Appointments are conducted virtually, so you can meet from a private location without traveling to an office. You must be physically in New York or New Jersey during your appointment. We confirm your location, language needs, privacy, and clinical fit before scheduling.

Preparing for your appointment

Let us know a safe way and time to contact you. Choose a private location for the appointment where you can speak freely. Relevant records can be discussed before the interview; please do not send detailed information through an unsecured inquiry channel.

From interview to written report

Before we begin, we review the purpose of the assessment, informed consent, confidentiality limits, and fees. The evaluation may include a clinical interview, appropriate assessment measures, and review of relevant available records. A written report presents the clinical findings and relevant limitations. Report timing is agreed upon before booking.

What if discussing the experiences feels difficult?

You can let the evaluator know when you need a pause or have concerns about a question. The interview is structured with attention to distress, and the scope and confidentiality limits are reviewed before beginning.
